The Journal of Skin Cancers, Conditions, Aesthetics, and Reconstructive Surgery (JSCARS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access online medical journal dedicated to advancing clinical and scientific knowledge in dermatologic oncology, inflammatory skin disease, cosmetic dermatology, and reconstructive surgery.

Published quarterly at SCARSjournal.org, JSCARS provides a multidisciplinary forum for physicians, surgeons, researchers, and allied healthcare professionals to share original research, clinical experience, surgical innovation, and educational advances related to the diagnosis, treatment, and restoration of the skin.

Scope and Focus

JSCARS publishes original articles, review articles, case reports, surgical techniques, technical notes, clinical images, and editorials across four principal areas:

  • Skin Oncology — including melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, cutaneous oncology, tumor biology, immunotherapy, Mohs micrographic surgery, and reconstructive outcomes.
  • Dermatologic Conditions — including inflammatory dermatoses, hidradenitis suppurativa, autoimmune skin disease, chronic skin disorders, and translational dermatologic research.
  • Aesthetic Dermatology — including cosmetic procedures, laser and energy-based treatments, injectables, regenerative medicine, and evidence-based aesthetic outcomes.
  • Reconstructive Surgery — including cutaneous reconstruction, flap and graft techniques, scar revision, functional restoration, surgical planning, and postoperative rehabilitation.

Publication Model

JSCARS is published exclusively online on a quarterly basis and operates under a Platinum Open Access publishing model. All articles are freely and permanently accessible to readers worldwide immediately upon publication, and no article processing charges (APCs) are required from authors.

Peer Review and Editorial Standards

All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process conducted by qualified reviewers and editorial board members with expertise relevant to the subject matter. JSCARS is committed to maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and ethical publication practices.

The journal follows internationally recognized publication ethics standards and editorial best practices, including guidance established by the Committee on Publication Ethics.
