About the Journal

The Journal of Skin Cancers, Conditions, Aesthetics, and Reconstructive Surgery (JSCARS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access medical journal dedicated to the full lifecycle of skin care. Hosted at SCARSjournal.org, we provide a professional platform for surgeons and researchers to explore everything from the microscopic origins of skin cancer to the complex geometry of reconstructive flap design.

Our Core Mission

Our mission is to bridge the gap between high-level skin science and the refined artistry of reconstructive surgery. We serve as the definitive record for the evolution of skin health, providing an open-access forum where the medical and surgical communities can share advancements in both treatment and restoration.

Scientific and Artistic Pillars

The journal's scope is organized around four integrated areas of excellence:

  • Skin Cancers: Investigating the pathology, immunology, and targeted treatment of malignant skin neoplasms.

  • Dermatological Conditions: Exploring the management of complex inflammatory and chronic skin diseases.

  • Aesthetics: Advancing evidence-based outcomes in cosmetic dermatology and non-invasive rejuvenation.

  • Reconstructive Surgery: Detailing innovative surgical techniques, including flap designs like Z-plasty and V-Y advancement, to restore form and function.

Commitment to Open Science

In alignment with our goal for PubMed Central indexation, JSCARS operates on a Platinum Open Access model.

  • No Barriers: All articles are immediately and permanently free to the public under a CC BY 4.0 license.

  • No Fees: We have removed the "pay-to-publish" barrier by charging no Article Processing Charges (APC) to authors.

  • Rigorous Review: All submissions undergo a robust, double-blind peer review to maintain the highest scientific and ethical standards in accordance with COPE guidelines.
